Facts around Singing Bowls
What is a Singing Bowl?
Many people have already 'heard something about'
singing bowls or even their sound, maybe held one in their own
hands, but only a few know more about this soundful messenger from
far away cultures. Singing bowls are
found in the entire Himalaya and in some other countries like China,
Japan and
Thailand. They are used in meditations,
their targeted complex sound is up to accelerate inner clearance.
Weight of the bowls differs from about 150 grams up to several
kilograms, diameter size varies from about 5 - 35 cm. Extremely
rare bowls may be a lot bigger and very heavy. Traditionally
manufactured singing-bowls
are artficially forged metal bowls.
Up to the local tradition and the major religious influence,
different recipies for the alloying have been in use. Singing
bowls from buddistic countries contain 12 important metals derived
from buddhistic cosmology. There are seven metals
according to planets: gold, silver, quicksilver, copper, iron, lead and tin,
and five
more of importance, zinc, meteor iron, bismuth,
galena and pyrites. Another very important ingredient is a piece of an old
singing-bowl, containing informations of ancient knowledge. This alloy is cast
into a thick
disk and hammered by four craftsmen, raising the disk to a bowl during it is
in a hot condition. It takes the four craftsmen approximately 32 hours to produce
a high quality singing-bowl of about one kilogram. |
